Project NOW Illinois Home Weatherization Assistance Program (IHWAP)
The Illinois Home Weatherization Assistance Program (IHWAP) helps people with low income save money on energy bills by making their homes more energy efficient. The program also helps make homes safer and healthier to live in.
By weatherizing homes, IHWAP helps families use less energy and stay comfortable all year long. This can also make energy costs more affordable.
Some of the services IHWAP may pay for include:
Sealing up air leaks
Adding insulation to attics and walls
Fixing or replacing heating and cooling systems (HVAC)
Fixing or replacing water heaters
Replacing old lightbulbs and refrigerators to save energy
Controlling moisture and improving airflow in the home
Health and safety repairs
Important Information About Applying
When you fill out this pre-application, you are asking to be added to a waiting list. This does not mean you are already approved for help.
The waiting list is based on priority. Some homes are placed higher on the list if they:
Have very high heating bills compared to their income
Have someone living there who is a senior (60 or older), has a disability, or is a young child (5 years old or younger)
Because of limited funding and the number of people applying, some families may stay on the waiting list for several years.
If your name is chosen from the list, a Project NOW, IHWAP Assessor will contact you for next steps.
This program is not for emergencies, but joining the waiting list is the first step to getting help.
